There is good news for both men and women who are growing more and more unhappy with the sight of wrinkles and fine lines that they see every time they look into the mirror. Injectable dermal fillers, a way to restore smooth skin and soften those discouraging lines, are now available. They are so minimally invasive that a session usually does not last more than a half an hour and can be done during lunch hour. There's also no recovery period, so you can go back to work or regular routine right after the treatment.

Types of Fillers
Different types of fillers include:

Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in all living things. It hydrates the skin and other tissues in the body. Abundant when a person is young, it declines over time. Hyaluronic acid is used to correct deep folds and wrinkles and lasts from six months to about a year as the body slowly absorbs it.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid
Pol-L-lactic acid is a synthetic polymer that was used in absorbable sutures before it was considered as a dermal filler. It is used for facial wrinkles and to smooth out contour problems. It can last as long as two years.

Collagen
Like hyaluronic acid, collagen is a natural substance that is found in the skin and other bodily tissues. Along with elastin, it creates a springy foundation beneath the layers of skin to keep the skin supple. Collagen is harvested from cows or human cadavers and lasts three or four months.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite
This filler is also a natural material that's found in bones and teeth. It is most successful in adding volume to areas on the backs of the client's hands that have become thinned out and dry. Calcium hydroxylapatite can last about 18 months.

PMMA
PMMA is considered semi-permanent and is not absorbed by the body over time. It is man-made and made up of tiny beads suspended in a collagen gel.

Fat
The benefits of a person's own fat include the fact that the body won't reject it. It is collected as a byproduct of another cosmetic procedure such as liposuction.
