Although outdoor activity is limited, maintaining healthy skin is important. There are a number of ways to improve your skin’s appearance, including exfoliation. Exfoliation helps detox our largest organ by removing dead skin cells and buildup that make your skin appear dull and unhealthy.

A popular exfoliation method involves using scrubs. Scrubs stimulate collagen production and allow your skin to remain firm. Scrubs also improve the absorption of topical products. There are quality scrubs you can make at home. Here’s a list of beneficial DIY scrubs to improve your quarantine skin.

Brown Sugar Scrub
Brown sugar is a soft sugar, making it great for sensitive skin. The brown sugar helps your oil further penetrate and moisturize your skin. While essential oils are optional, their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties are an added boost. Mix ½ cup of brown sugar, a ½ cup of carrier oil, and your choice essential oils. Be sure to thoroughly wash and rinse this scrub to avoid sticky skin.

Sea Salt Scrub
Sea salt is a natural exfoliant and preservative. This recipe is the same as the previously mentioned scrub recipe except you replace sugar with salt. It’s advised you avoid salt scrubs if you have cuts or broken skin, as it will sting. Avoid using this scrub if you have sensitive skin. Also note that salt doesn’t carry a fragrance, so add essential oils for a mildly sweet scent.

Honey Sugar Scrub
Honey is famous for its antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. Honey removes germs, repairs skin tissue, and minimizes UV damage. Mix ½ cup of brown sugar, ¼ cup of melted coconut oil, and 2 tablespoons of honey and store in a container. Gradually add coconut oil if overly crumbly.

Homemade scrubs are an affordable, all-natural way to achieve great skin indoors. Be sure to use these scrubs in moderation and gently exfoliate to avoid irritation.
